There are a few in here and yes I have read for almost 8 years, that need
to be put in their place.

There isn't many left in the hobby, but those that find some things
funny and actually run Dovenet I find appauling, they must sit back
and enjoy the same sort of non-sense on a basis that seems out of the norm.

Maybe the management of Dovenet can focus on a squelch of these individuals rather than applaud their efforts. It is destroying any new users in my opinion.

No reason to reply, I won't respond... just wanted to toss in my ten cents.

I know you say 'no reason to reply', but by posting this, you're pretty much asking to be trolled by those you're likely writing about. :)

With that out of the way, I'll offer my own 10 cents in return: I've been connected to DOVE-Net for a few years (not as many as you, but long enough), and I've observed plenty of interesting, worthwhile conversations, as well as plenty others that descend into name calling and such. That's really no different than any other online forum or othernet. I honestly don't know what more you're expecting.

As for DOVE-Net management stepping in, I'm pretty sure the general attitude is, anything goes unless the messages are causing some negative technical problem within the network. If I don't like the *content* within a message. I can delete it myself from my own board and add the sender to my twit filter. I wouldn't want the hub to censor messages for me.

Last thing I'll say that you probably won't read, if you feel certain individuals need to be put in their place, then by all means, feel empowered to put them in their place yourself.

I've seen that stuff on other forums & nets as well, though honestly I sometimes feel like it happens more frequently on Dove-Net. Maybe it's due to the length of time I've been on Dove-Net though. I've been on Dove-Net since about 2007ish and have observed quite a bit. I feel like a lot of it has stemmed from one user in particular, though there have been others as well who have come and provoked people here, then left. On the other hand, I've been on FSX-Net a while and I can't think of a whole lot of that type of thing that has happened there. Perhaps one incident I can think of there is where one user (The Millionaire) started posting there and people were annoyed with his posting style. There's also an online forum I've used since 2013 (not on a BBS) that I feel has been generally good too, with not a whole lot of harassment or anything. In the cases of that forum and FSX-Net, I think there is generally more moderation than what we see on Dove-Net.

You can always hit the enter key or use the twitlist file.
it's not that hard to do either.

I've heard people(big babies) say that our arguing is chasing away people. I asked for one case of proof but they can never provide anything.

Part of the reason dovenet is so successful is because of how it's ran. There's other msg nets that enjoy censorship and single mindedness. That would take effort though, because they aren't built into your msg bases the way dovenet is.

You always have the power as a sysop to 'squelch' whoever you do not want to see on your own system.

I don't think it's censorship so much as telling people who are being a jackass to stop, and kicking them out if it carries on too long. I think there can be a benefit in that - For an online forum to be successful, I think it can be good to try to avoid having it turn into a negative environment where jackasses and trolls are allowed to harass other members. Instead, I think a good forum should be a good place to discuss various topics without much of the negativity that comes from that.

I get where you're coming from 100%. To your point, I think the only instance of moderation I've seen on fsxNet, was somewhat recently when there was a lengthy thread of political conversations in FSX_GEN, which prompted Avon to step in and ask everyone to put a lid on it.

When that happens in DOVE-Net though, since there *is* a sub intended for political talk, group members are often quick to reply saying to take the conversation there, often without any admin having to lift a finger.

That sort of group moderation is what I tend to prefer.
