Re: 10Gb Ethernet is now "afforadable"

I'd hestitated before because of the 10GBase-T switches available were expensive (I wasn't interested in going down the SFP+ route, I wanted to use CAT6(a) cabling) - anyway, MikroTik has a nice 4(+1) port 10GBaseT switch for under $200:

My Internet speed is still just 640/40Mb, but I have to move large files (usually video) between systems often enough that this is a huge time saver. And I'm hoping the lower latency will help with my Samba/SMB share issues (lost lock/unlock requests) that happen about once a day.
I hadn't really looked into 10 gigabit equipment much yet.. I do have a couple PCs that I copy files between sometimes, but I feel like 1 gigabit is still enough for me. Maybe one reason is that although I have SSDs in both computers, I also have a spinning hard drive in each computer (for storage) as well, as spinning drives still seem to be less expensive for storage - and I thought a gigabit network connection would be about as fast as I could copy files between PCs with a couple of spinning hard drives.
That 10 gigabit switch is more expensive than my router cost.. At the price point, I might wait a bit before upgrading to 10 gigabit. Also, I'd have to buy 10 gigabit ethernet cards for both PCs, since their onboard ethernet is 1 gigabit.
